Mark Robbins Appointed to Long Range Planning Committee

Will bring a background in green building to the group planning for New Canaan's future.

The Long Range Planning Committee has a new member. On June 21, the approved the appointment of Mark Robbins as the fifth member of the committee tasked with creating a master plan for major town buildings in the center of town.

and Selectman Sally Hines both voted to approve Robbins’ appointment. Selectman Rob Mallozzi abstained.

By way of introduction, Walker said Robbins will bring his expertise on green technologies to the group.

Robbins told the Selectmen he has a 20-year background in real estate development. He said he came to New Canaan when he was working with Avalon Bay to develop multi-family housing in lower Fairfield County. He served as president of the residential division of National Realty and Development Corp., which created Windmere on the Lake, in Stamford. According to the Windmere website, the planned community features New England’s first luxury LEED-certified green home. Robbins said he is teaching sustainable building technology at Columbia University.

Robbins fills the fifth and final seat on the Long Range Planning Committee. Also serving on the committee are chair Christine Wagner, Neil Budnick, Arnold Karp and Penny Rashin. Town Planner Steve Kleppin serves in an ex-officio capacity.
