New Canaan: Election Results
The following table breaks down how New Canaan constituents voted in all races affecting the town, putting those results into context by placing the tallies side-by-side against district, state and national figures.
Polling results came in from New Caaan at 2 a.m. Wednesday and are unofficial, according to George Cody, registrar of voters. They'll be confirmed in the morning and are not expected substantially to change, Cody said. Note: Complete Norwalk and Wilton results also were late coming through and were unavailable as of 2:30 a.m.
Winners are in bold. Click on each race name for details. What you see here is a snapshot as of 2 a.m. Nov. 7. For state legislature races, New Canaan's unofficial results have been added to the larger district tally and factored into the percentage vote.

Good morning, and welcome to Election Day 2012!
Today, New Canaan residents go to the polls to choose a president, U.S. Senator, U.S. Representative representing the 4th District, state senators representing the 26th and 36th Districts, and state representatives from the 125th and 127th Districts.
See below for information on where to cast your ballot and the list of candidates. We've also included how New Canaan voted in 2008, the year of the last presidential election, and 2010, the last mid-term election.
Read it over, then visit your local polling station between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. to make your voice heard! And be sure to check back here for updates throughout the day, including the announcement of the winners as soon as votes are tallied tonight.

Around Town on Election Day
Election officials say they're seeing strong voter turnout, as of late Tuesday morning. As of 11 a.m., 4,278 ballots had been cast in town. Story here.

New Canaan Polling Places
Polls open at 6 a.m. and will remain open until 8 p.m.
As Registrar of Voters George Cody has detailed, District 1 will vote at New Canaan High School and Districts 2 and 3 at Saxe Middle School, both of which received power Saturday.

Connecticut does not require a photo ID and apparently people at polling places in New Canaan have been asking for people to show photo IDs. If someone asks you to show a photo ID and you don't have one, don't walk away. Tell them you don't have a photo ID and that they shouldn't be asking people to show one. Regardless of who you support, everyone should exercise their right to vote. People should NOT be asking for photo IDs. Connecticut does not require them.
No one should be trying to vote illegitimately, and no one should be out attempting to raise questions about legimate steps to determine that votes are legitimate. I doubt there is any law that says we are prohibited from asking for ID. Just no law that says it is required. Those are two different things

In other words, you don't need ID at all if you're not a first time voter.
