New Canaan Transfer Station Cell Tower Visibility, Coverage Details

New Canaan officials have released a number of mockup photos and cell coverage maps relating to the proposed tower that would go up at the Transfer Station along Main Street

According to details posted in late September to the New Canaan town website, the proposed 150-foot tower at 394 Main Street would expand cell coverage and strengthen signals for residents in the immediate area, but be visible a far away as Darien and Norwalk, according to AT&T studies

The tower could generate up to $100,000 annually for the town in revenue should multiple carriers piggyback off the signal provided. The Board of Selectmen have endorsed the plan and officials have said the lack of solid coverage is a liability during emergency periods.

In late June, officials and phone company representatives conducted visibility tests with a balloon next to the station, and the recently released photos appear to be the next step in their communication of that data.
