State Officials Declare Town Hall Meetings a Success

Upon completion of their recent Town Hall tour in the 26th district communities, State officials declared the round of meetings a success Friday.

"These meetings provide for an excellent give-and take, and I believe they make us better legislators," said Sen. Scott Frantz. "Taxpayers need to be heard in Connecticut, and we bring their message directly to Hartford."

Senators Frantz and Toni Boucher and Representatives Tom O'Dea, John Frey and Gail Lavielle visited communities in New Canaan, Ridgefield, Westport and Wilton to discuss Connecticut's 2-year budget and answer questions about new legislation passed during the 2013 Legislative Session.

"There are many issues facing Connecticut residents," said O'Dea. "It is important that we make sure our government is in communication with our constituents.  I thank all the residents who came out to talk with us."

Following a short presentation, the lawmakers covered a range of topics including the high cost of business in Connecticut, efforts to reduce government red tape, the status of Connecticut’s bond rating and the launch of "Access Health Connecticut," the state’s public health insurance marketplace.

"There are a lot of changes happening in Connecticut, from healthcare insurance reform to volatile finances, I am concerned about the direction our state is going in," Boucher said. "There are deep implications for people and businesses alike."

The next legislative session will convene in February 2014.
