Unfinished Irwin Park Path to be Completed

Town expects to finish the project in October.

The Flexi-Pave trail at will be extended to run parallel to Weed Street, closing what is now an unfinished loop. At its meeting on Sept. 27, the Planning & Zoning Commission unanimously approved a request from Assistant Director of Public Works  for an extension of the existing trail system.

Mann, who was not in attendance at Tuesday's meeting, explained the plans in an e-mail to Patch. He said the trail will be made from a "Processed Aggregate Base.”

“It is the same material that is beneath the existing flexi-pave on the trails and is in-place at the new parking lot,” he said. “In the future, if funding permits, Flexi-Pave, or any other material, can be placed directly on top of it."

According to Parks and Recreation Commissioner Elizabeth Livingston when it was constructed in 2008, so "a decision was made not to put in that leg of the trail."

Mann said the P&Z approval was the last step required and that the work should begin within the next two weeks.  He said it will take one to two weeks to complete.
