City Man in Afghanistan: 'I Serve to Keep the Fight off American Soil'

This Veterans Day, meet Xavier High School graduate Joseph Wroniak of Middletown, the infantry team leader stationed at Forward Operation Base Salerno in Iraq.

Editor's Note: Ellen Jolie of Middletown has shared this Defense Video and Imagery and Distribution System story and photo with Middletown Patch. Her son, Joseph Wroniak from Middletown, is deployed in Afghanistan.

Sgt. Joseph Wroniak of Middletown, 27, an infantry team leader assigned to “Choppin” Company, 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), is deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, according to DVIDS.

He was featured in the article, "Soldier takes patriotic stand for freedom."

He is a 2004 graduate of Xavier High School in Middletown. He just turned 27 in October while being deployed, his mother says. Wroniak tells Middletown Patch he also went to Lincoln Technical Institute.

With no previous family history of serving in the military, Wroniak cited his childhood as a contributing factor to his ambitions, the article states. He is stationed at Forward Operation Base Salerno, a U.S.-led base in eastern Afghanistan.

"I serve so I can keep the fight off American soil," said Wroniak in the DVIDS article. "That's the last thing I want my family, friends or any other American to go through. I don't want to see anything like 9/11 or any other situation happen again."

God bless you Sergeant, I fear another attack on or soil is unavoidable with Obama's lackadaisical approach to foreign policy.
