Exceptions to the Rule

Plants need heat relief, too.

As with all rules applying to natural systems, there are exceptions which need to be pointed out on occasion.

You've seen me proselytize repeatedly on the proper watering techniques, avoiding "spritzing" and mid-day watering as counter-productive.

Here is your exception:

Buck says that when the mercury is in the neighborhood of or greater than your body temperature, you have my blessing to go out and shower your gardens once in a while during the heat of the day.

This not only provides a little extra water for the shallow roots, it acts as air conditioning as the evaporation of the water will significantly lower the ambient temperature imediately around your plants foliage.

Avoid spraying open blossoms, but don't worry about much else. With these kinds of heat pressures, the water will be gone long before it can cause any fungal issues.

If you wear a swimsuit and do a somewhat sloppy job of it, it could just do you some good as well!!
