Everything's Coming Up Roses in Bethel

November in Bethel proves to be the best month so far and only six days in, too!

Wow, what a crazy few days. I know it's been less than a week since I posted my last blog but SO much has happened! And, as I'm happy to report, Bethel came through for me like a champ.

Where to begin? I voted today! The first two things I did when I arrived in Bethel was 1. Open up a library card and 2. Register to vote. I'm one of those people who think that voting is the single most important thing you can do as an American citizen. Especially as a woman. (We've had the right to vote for less than a hundred years!) So I sauntered into the Bethel Municipal Center with my head held high and picked the candidates I wanted to represent me.

What else? At the beginning of October, my second month in Bethel, I was let go from one of my freelance jobs. (I'm a freelance contractor, to clarify.) As is to be expected, panic ensued. I applied for jobs left and right, got a few interviews here and there, none of them were the right fit. Then, on a whim, I called the new Bethel Tutoring & Study Center and applied for a Writing Tutor job. And guess what? A week later, the job was mine! As of right now, I'll be the Assistant Tutor for the SAT Verbal/Writing course. As time progresses, I'll be doing one-on-one tutoring with students to help improve their writing. (Shameless self-promotion here: Does your child need help writing his or her papers? Call Bethel Tutoring Center and set up an appointment with me, Sarah!)

But wait, there's more! Those this isn't quite Bethel news, I promise it's related. Having found myself so close to a state school I decided it was time to apply for my long awaited MFA. I have a meeting with the head of the department on Wednesday! Keep your fingers crossed for me, Bethel!

Could there possibly be more to talk about? Oh yes, yes there could be. This one is brief, I swear. I need your help! My birthday is on Thursday, the long-awaited and much anticipated 25. My parents are coming to visit on Sunday for a celebratory dinner. But where should we go? Nothing too fancy, but just fancy enough to celebrate a big birthday. What restaurants would you suggest? Preferably in Bethel.

After what was one of the worst months in my life, November in Bethel is already coming up roses for me. And the Nor'Easter hitting on my birthday? No sweat, I survived Sandy, what's the worst it could do?

Paragraph four, second sentence should start with "though", not "those". :)

That, too! (I'll admit, I'm far better at editing others' work than I am my own.)

Thanks, Leslie!

Same for me. I proofread mail order catalogues and advertising pieces for 20 years and can spot a misspelled word or grammatical error from 10 feet away, but can't see my own mistakes.

oh and... Happy 25th Birthday!
