District: New Canaan Schools in Session April 15-16

That's a Monday-Tuesday originally scheduled for April break. There's also a half-day on June 21, a Friday that will (as of now) serve as the last day of school, district officials say.

In the wake of the winter storm and subsequent cancellation of school Monday following snow days already caused by Tropical Storm Sandy, New Canaan district officials say school will be in session both April 15 and 16—a Monday and Tuesday, originally April break—and for a half-day on June 21, a Friday.

A copy of Superintendent of Schools Dr. Mary Kolek’s update is attached as a PDF.

“In the event of additional cancellations, subsequent days will be taken from April break,” Kolek said. “Should the number of required days exceed the remaining days in April vacation, we will use the last week of June to ensure we meet the state guideline of 180 days.”

Families who already have plans to be away on Feb. 15 (a half-day) or the two April school days should speak to their school’s principal directly, Kolek said.

Graduation Day will be determined at the April 1 Board of Education meeting, Kolek said.

I just called Staples. This is really disturbing to me. If I don't get a satisfactory answer, IRead More will let people know and I will also decide whether to continue shopping there. I do not like to give my money to unethical businesses.

This has convinced my growing conviction that Patch has moved completely away from any pretense ofRead More being a news source and is simply an electronic bulletin board. By abandoning their prior procedure of approving posts before they go up, they are letting anything go on and then taking them down if they're reported. By then, it's too late: the poster has gotten their message across during the time it's in the lineup. I only check in with Patch occasionally now and so many people in town won't read it at all anymore. I think we need to be honest with ourselves about what kind of a public forum this venue is. This doesn't reflect well on Staples if they are using subterfuge and violating Terms of Use on Patch either.

New Canaan hockey players are better off playing at Sono, Ridgefield or Stamford Youth Hockey.
