The Lapham Community Center presents Safe Steps: Hands-on Ways to Prevent Falls and Create a Safer Home Environment at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, March 3.
Statistics show that most falls are preventable, yet each year one in three adults over age 65 will fall at home, and one-third will suffer serious injury. Safe Steps educates older adults about the latest research on preventing falls.
With the help of Elainne Abrams, RN, MPH, Community Health Cordinator at Nursing & Home Care, attendees will:

- Take tbe Safe Steps Home Safety Assessment via a virtual home safety walk-thru;
- Learn why proper footwear, regular vision and hearing checks, and medication management are all important steps to staying healthy and safe;
- Learn about home adaptive equipment to assist in staying home safely;
- Learn simple balance exercises to do at home; and
- View Safe Steps DVD on how to make changes to the home to reduce fall risk.
