No Sloppy Joes: Lunch This Week at New Canaan Schools

Not much to add to the headline on this one. If this is something you'd like us to post each Monday, just say so in the comments below. Full month's menu attached as PDF. Thanks!

Many more options here than I remember when I was in the system (Center and then East, Saxe and NCHS '93)—including several non-dairy and gluten-free options.

If it were Board of Education members and other district officials dining this week—with a major public hearing this week on next year's school budget—we might expect to see antacids offered, too, at least for Monday and Tuesday (maybe something stronger Wednesday, depending on how it goes).

Here's "what's on" for our students (descriptions are taken right from the NCPS website). A la carte menus and prices are attached, as well:

Elementary Schools

Mon. Chicken Fingers—served with your choice of sauce, brown rice pilaf, vegetables and fruit (ED, ND) Tues. Calzone—we make these beauties right here in our kitchen! Served with salad and fruit (EF) Weds. Quesadilla—Chicken quesadilla served with brown rice pilaf, green beans and pineapple (EF) Thurs. Pizza—Choose plain or one of our specialties. You get salad, fruit and milk (EF, GF) Fri. Pasta—Have it with or without sauce. Salad, bread, fruit and milk (EF, GF) (Key: EF= "egg free," ND = "non-dairy," GF = "gluten-free available")

Saxe Middle School

Mon. Stromboli—we make these beauties right here in our kitchen! Served with salad and fruit. Tues. Tacos—Have it in a soft or hard shell … or have it as a taco salad! Weds. Pizza—Made with our very own whole grain artisan crust. Served with tossed salad and fruit salad Thurs. Seafood—Salmon, mahi mahi or cod served with vegetables, salad and fruit. Fri. I just called Staples. This is really disturbing to me. If I don't get a satisfactory answer, IRead More will let people know and I will also decide whether to continue shopping there. I do not like to give my money to unethical businesses.

This has convinced my growing conviction that Patch has moved completely away from any pretense ofRead More being a news source and is simply an electronic bulletin board. By abandoning their prior procedure of approving posts before they go up, they are letting anything go on and then taking them down if they're reported. By then, it's too late: the poster has gotten their message across during the time it's in the lineup. I only check in with Patch occasionally now and so many people in town won't read it at all anymore. I think we need to be honest with ourselves about what kind of a public forum this venue is. This doesn't reflect well on Staples if they are using subterfuge and violating Terms of Use on Patch either.

New Canaan hockey players are better off playing at Sono, Ridgefield or Stamford Youth Hockey.

if they had done it at night at least it wouldn't have been smudged. BUT, i happen to think itsRead More nice, and especially with the flags hanging. we forget we are a small new england town, and small things like the red white and blue stripes remind me that we still are! :)
