Schools Closed, MTA Delays, Plows Out, Roads Rutted and Slushy [Update]

No power outages reported in New Canaan.

Update 7:30 a.m.

New Canaan resident Laurie Cantillo sent this e-mail report to Patch:

Plows are out...major roads around New Canaan are mostly slushy.  Some roads haven't been plowed at all, like Benedict Hill and the upper part of Valley Road. Rutted and slick.  Looks like we had about 1-2 inches of snow overnight then it started pelleting...now it's just rain.

Merritt Is mostly just wet now...everyone going about 45 mph.

Original Story

The National Weather Service predicts two to three inches of snow will fall followed by a slick covering of ice making roads icy and travel "treacherous."

New Canaan Public Schools, St. Luke’s School and New Canaan Country School are closed today because of the storm.

As of 6:30 a.m. New Canaan police had received no reports of power outages or traffic accidents on town roads.

Temperatures will be in the low to mid 20s this morning, and are expected to rise to above freezing by early afternoon, according to the NWS.

The morning snow will change to icy rain and sleet, and then to become rain later in the day.

Driving conditions will be “extremely hazardous” during the morning rush and “treacherous” into early afternoon, according to NWS.

Patch will provide additional updates as they become available.
