Superintendent Search Committee Members Named [UPDATE]

The hunt for New Canaan's next Superintendent of Schools is underway with the an April, 2012 target for naming Abbey's successor.

UPDATE, Nov. 14

The name of BOE member Mary Freiberg was inadvertently omitted from the Press Release issued by the BOE.

ORIGINAL STORY

The Board of Education released the following announcement today:

"Nick Williams, outgoing Chairman of the Board of Education, is pleased to announce the appointment of the committee that will advise the Board in its search for the next superintendent of the New Canaan Public Schools. Mr. Williams notes that this is a blue ribbon panel, composed of representatives of all the key constituencies in New Canaan, knowledgeable about education and committed to the continuous enhancement of our public schools.  In making this announcement, Mr. Williams wishes to thank in advance each member’s willingness to be tireless in seeking an outstanding new superintendent.

Now that the committee is formed, the next major task for the Board is to engage a search firm to assist in the process. This phase is already underway. The Board will be meeting with three or four of the search consultants who expressed a strong interest and submitted a proposal. Once a search firm is chosen, a process and a timeline will be developed with the likely appointment of a new superintendent in early April of 2012. This is largely a confidential process, but as it moves forward there will be opportunities for community input and the committee spokesperson will keep the school community informed appropriately.

Where DIDN'T you learn to write?? Jane Himmel May 22, 2013 at 01:27 pm "This has CONVINCED MYRead More GROWING CONVICTION that Patch has moved complete..."

I just called Staples. This is really disturbing to me. If I don't get a satisfactory answer, IRead More will let people know and I will also decide whether to continue shopping there. I do not like to give my money to unethical businesses.

This has convinced my growing conviction that Patch has moved completely away from any pretense ofRead More being a news source and is simply an electronic bulletin board. By abandoning their prior procedure of approving posts before they go up, they are letting anything go on and then taking them down if they're reported. By then, it's too late: the poster has gotten their message across during the time it's in the lineup. I only check in with Patch occasionally now and so many people in town won't read it at all anymore. I think we need to be honest with ourselves about what kind of a public forum this venue is. This doesn't reflect well on Staples if they are using subterfuge and violating Terms of Use on Patch either.

if they had done it at night at least it wouldn't have been smudged. BUT, i happen to think itsRead More nice, and especially with the flags hanging. we forget we are a small new england town, and small things like the red white and blue stripes remind me that we still are! :)
