February is Pet Dental Health Month

Stronger Teeth for a Better Crunch

February is pet dental health month and it is important that your pet gets into that prestigious ‘No Cavity Club’. A lot of people just hide their face from pet bad breath, but it could be the first sign of damage to your pet’s teeth, gums and internal organs.

Taking care of your pet’s dental health is just as important as feeding your pet. A simple easy step is brushing your pet’s teeth; however, make sure you have toothpaste specific for animals.

It is estimated that 20% of cats and dogs live with periodontal disease. This disease consists of infections in the bone surrounding the teeth. This disease is tough to look out for because there aren’t too many obvious signs. However, it can begin with swelling or redness in the gums and eventually lead to deteriorating gums and loss of teeth.

Another major sign to watch out for is the discoloration of the pet’s teeth and excessive drooling. This disease can cause pain for the pet without the owner having any clue. We all have had a tooth ache and know the unpleasantness it can cause. There is no reason why owners should not take the necessary steps to ensure their pet doesn’t have to experience this.

So, this month be sure to check-in with your veterinarian to re-assure your pet is not suffering. They will check for these symptoms that you may notice yourself.
