Ward P. Cleary, the Late Steve Stillerman and Neil Sedaka to be Honored at Silver Hill Hospital Gala -- Martha Stewart to Emcee

Gala raises scholarship money for patients who need longer term, residential Transitional Living Programs, but do not have resources to cover the cost.

Silver Hill is a non-profit hospital that primarily serves the local Connecticut and tri-state area. Our focus is always on improving outcomes for as many patients as possible. We began hosting a gala three years ago because insurance only covers the costs in our short term, crisis stabilization inpatient programs. We are thankful for that. It is absolutely critical to bring all emergency situations under control.

Our longer-term Transitional Living Programs are to mental illness what rehab is to a heart attack or broken leg. But, although we believe treatment in these residential programs is essential for full patient recovery, they typically are not covered by insurance. Therefore, we began giving out scholarships so that more patients could get the care they need. Last year, we awarded over $1 million in scholarships.

This year, we are honoring two members of the community who have untiringly provided leadership at the hospital for decades: Ward P. Cleary, current board co-chair and whose family began volunteering for us in 1942, will be the recipient of the Founders Award.  The late Steve Stillerman, who led the hospital at a pivotal time in our history, will be posthumously given the Visionary Award.

We will also be recognizing the important role music plays in healing mental illness by honoring music legend Neil Sedaka. He will perform as well, and we are fortunate to have him grace our stage and uplift our spirits.

Our November 28 Gala will be held at Cipriani 42nd Street in Manhattan. The evening will be emceed by local and national lifestyle icon, Martha Stewart. We know her humor and wit will not only move the evening along, but entertain us as well.  Dancing to the Hudson Project and a live auction will follow.  All proceeds go to our patient scholarship fund.
