A Little Summer Fun — Pickleball Comes to New Canaan

The New Canaan Recreation Department is offering lessons in the hottest new racquet game called Pickleball.

What are you doing on Monday nights this summer?

The New Canaan Recreation Department is offering Pickleball, considered the fastest growing sport in the country, for adults on Monday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Waveny Paddle Courts. Volunteer instructors and equipment will be provided. The program is free to New Canaan residents aged 18 and older.

The game combines elements of ping pong, badminton and tennis in which two to four players use paddles to hit a perforated ball over a net.

It’s fun, easy to learn and can be played at either a social or competitive level. And here's a fun fact — the name "Pickleball" apparently came about because the game’s inventors used a ball belonging to their dog named “Pickles.”

Advance registration is required so the Rec staff can be sure there will be enough paddles and equipment. Call the Rec Department at 203-594-3600 to sign up.
