Blue Wave Ties Rams Swimming

The Darien team is thrilled! New Canaan is not.

New Canaan's long-standing rival, the Darien Blue Wave,  tied up the Rams boys swim team as they split the first place finishes at the Darien YMCA on Friday.

"Darien swam very well. Our kids swam very well. Darien's got some strengths where we have weaknesses, so it matched up pretty evenly as the score would show," said Rams Head Coach Jason Paige, who sounded disappointed with the 93-93 final.

Meanwhile Blue Wave Head Coach Matt Czaplicki was ecstatic, "This may be one of our best swims that I've had for years here," he said. "My team this year is bigger than its ever been, it's better than its ever been, more dedicated than they've ever been... We've got a lot of meets this year that are going to be a lot like this one—very close."

After several years of dominance, Page said teams like Darien are hungry to knock off New Canaan, so the Rams will have to step up their game.

"I think our kids definitely need to execute their races a lot better," he said. "I saw a lot of sloppy turns."
