Coaches Recall Sandusky's Visit to Turkey Bowl

Two former Darien High School football coaches recall when attended the Thanksgiving Turkey Bowl game between New Canaan and Darien in 2001 in a blog post in the Stamford Advocate.

As Ruden points out, 2001 was the most recent year that Darien’s Blue Wave won the annual Thanksgiving Day match up, considered one of the biggest rivalries in Connecticut high school sports.

In the post, former DHS football offensive line, defensive line and special teams coach Steve Lauten talks about his very brief encounter with Sandusky, which was trivial at best, while former head coach Jeff Brameier (now coaching Darien lacrosse) said he may have met Sandusky that day, but he wasn’t really sure.

Just how much of a rivalry is the Turkey Bowl? Last year for vandalizing parts of New Canaan High School, including the building at the entrance to Dunning Field, with blue spray paint two nights before the big game.
