New Canaan SportsBeat: I'm Amazed That ...

There have been some amazing performances this year.

I'm amazed that the baseball team had three no-hitters in the span of eight days. David Cherry, Andrew Reel, and then Cherry again tossed hitless gems during a stretch in April. Not bad considering there was no record of anybody in the history of the program throwing even one no-hitter before then.

I'm amazed that Ashley Guillette burst onto the scene and had the incredible success that she did. The freshman pitcher at put the Wolverines on her back and carried them to the SWC title with a 19-2 record.

I'm amazed that another player from the area played an integral part in winning a national championship in lacrosse. Jack Runkel of Fairfield and a graduate of , was the backbone of the Loyola Greyhounds defense. The goalie went 16-1 and stood strong between the pipes in the title game against Maryland. In 2011, Matt White of was stellar in helping Virginia win the national championship. In 2010, CJ Costible of New Fairfield scored the winning goal in overtime to give Duke the championship over Notre Dame. of Westport also played a key role for the Blue Devils during their run to the title.

I'm amazed that the boys volleyball team has won 42 consecutive matches at the time of this article. That is what you call total dominance

I'm amazed at the resiliency of the boys lacrosse team. After a 3-3 start, they ripped off 13 consecutive wins to capture the FCIAC lacrosse championship.

I'm amazed that Shayna Delaney of Pomperaug scored 114 goals this season in lacrosse. 114! That's a ton of goals.

I'm amazed that the baseball won 22 straight games before losing to Trumbull in the FCIAC title game.

I'm amazed by the performance of of this year. He went 8-1 as a pitcher and hit .407 with 7 home runs. Some other people were amazed, too, as he was voted Gatorade Player of the Year for Connecticut.

I'm amazed by the performance of Jess Harkness of Foran this year. Harkness has a record of 21-1 and last Wednesday she tossed a no-hitter with 13 strikeouts against E.O. Smith in the first round of the Class L playoffs.

I'm amazed that the Stratford Brakettes opened their new season on Friday riding a 119-game winning streak. Now, that's a winning streak.

Where DIDN'T you learn to write?? Jane Himmel May 22, 2013 at 01:27 pm "This has CONVINCED MYRead More GROWING CONVICTION that Patch has moved complete..."

I just called Staples. This is really disturbing to me. If I don't get a satisfactory answer, IRead More will let people know and I will also decide whether to continue shopping there. I do not like to give my money to unethical businesses.

This has convinced my growing conviction that Patch has moved completely away from any pretense ofRead More being a news source and is simply an electronic bulletin board. By abandoning their prior procedure of approving posts before they go up, they are letting anything go on and then taking them down if they're reported. By then, it's too late: the poster has gotten their message across during the time it's in the lineup. I only check in with Patch occasionally now and so many people in town won't read it at all anymore. I think we need to be honest with ourselves about what kind of a public forum this venue is. This doesn't reflect well on Staples if they are using subterfuge and violating Terms of Use on Patch either.

New Canaan hockey players are better off playing at Sono, Ridgefield or Stamford Youth Hockey.
