New Canaan Rec Dept: "Register Now for Fall Programs"

Deadlines for some programs is August 12th. This is a good time to decide on fall activities offered through town and complete the registration process to secure a spot.


According to the New Canaan Recreation Department, now is the time to decide on the fall youth activities and complete the registration process to secure a spot. 

The Recreation Department will again offer some of New Canaan's most popular programs this fall: soccer, flag football, tennis, golf, field hockey, paddle tennis, and guitar lessons.

Youth Programs
1. FALL YOUTH SOCCER
Recreation Fall Soccer's full traditional kindergarten through fourth grade program continues to be the most popular program in town.  One team practice a week and aSaturday morning game are scheduled for 8 weeks beginning September 7 through October 26.  The registration deadline is August 12th to secure a spot in the fall program.  New supplemental a-la-carte programs are offered this fall and you can review the offerings below under RecXcel Soccer Programs. 

2. RECXCEL SOCCER PROGRAMS
New Recreation Department sponsored soccer programs are now offered to participants registered in the Fall Recreation Soccer Program. STAR Soccer Grade 1 (Wednesdays); STAR Soccer Grade 2 (Fridays); Striker Soccer Grades 1-4 (Thursdays); Having Fun with Soccer Grades K-1 (Thursdays). 

These programs will meet once a week for the fall and represent an additional program for your child to enjoy, utilizing Recreation Department certified professional soccer coaches.  You will find complete program information on the town website and at the Recreation Office.  
 
3. NCFFL FLAG FOOTBALL
The Recreation Department will again manage the NCFFL New Canaan Flag Football League for boys grades 3-8.  This will be the ninth season in New Canaan with two grade divisions: 3-5; 6-8. 

Players are evaluated and placed on teams with parent coaches who will practice once a week and play games on Saturday mornings at the Waveny Gurf Field. 

Registration is now open through a deadline of August 12th

A free skills clinic will be held August 20-22, 4:30-6:00 pmat Waveny Park.  Players need to attend one of these free clinics for an evaluation or attend an alternate clinic on August 27th.  Go to the sport website for information www.ncffl.info

4. FALL YOUTH TENNIS INSTRUCTION AT MEAD PARK
Taught by the Recreation Department certified tennis professionals from the area, six classes open to ages 4-14 are offered on Saturday mornings for six weeks beginning September 7th. 

Instruction will have a strong emphasis on technique and fun related games.  Classes for squirts ages 4-5 will be 30 minutes while other classes will be one hour.   
    
5. GOLF INSTRUCTION
Boys and girls ages 8-17 can enjoy a four week golf instructional program at the Waveny Golf Range.  Classes will be held on Saturday mornings from 9-10:00 am beginning September 14th.

6. FIELD HOCKEY FOR GIRLS
Open to grades 3-8. this is a great program for the first year player and an introduction to the sport.  Played on Saturday mornings at the High School fields, we will provide a stick if you do not own one.  Players must supply field hockey eye protection, a mouthguard and shin guards.  Skill instruction and mini games each week beginning September 7th.  
  
7. PADDLE TENNIS INSTRUCTION 
A four week program for boys and girls in Middle School grades 5-8 will be held this fall at the Waveny Paddle Courts.  Girls- Mondays 4:30; Boys- Mondays 5:30 beginning October 21.

8. YOUTH GUITAR LESSONS
Beginner and intermediate levels of guitar lessons will be offered Thursdays for grades 3-8 after-school at the Saxe Middle School.  Guitars will be provided at the class or bring your own.  An 8-week program, the classes will begin September 26.
