St. Luke'seighth-grader BJ Buckle (’16) has been selected to participate in the 2012 Eastbay Youth All-American Game.

A Norwalk native, Buckle will play offensive line for the USA squad in the East Bay Youth Bowl – USA vs. Canada on Sunday in the Alamo Dome in San Antonio.  This follows a full week of practice with the Youth All American Team and a chance to watch the U.S. Army All American high school game – live.  Youth Bowls are webcast live on www.footballuniversity.org and www.allamericangames.tv.

Thousands of youth all-stars are nominated each year for the honor of playing in this prestigious venue.  The selection committee, consisting of Football University’s regional directors and scouts, work with hundreds of local youth football coaches and commissioners year-round to identify the top athletes.  They then narrow the field to 40 players for each of the four games.

Buckle's invitation to play said, “You are a dedicated football athlete and very deserving of this honor.”

He was selected for this individual honor because of his great performance on the Connecticut All Star team this fall.

"BJ is a special player," said Ryan Brown, St. Luke's head football, assistant athletic director and Buckle's advisor. "He started for our varsity team’s offensive line as an eighth-grader and that says a lot about his ability.

"He has the opportunity to develop into a truly great lineman during the next few years.  Not only is he a great player, he's a great student athlete who always has a smile on his face.  He's going to be fun to watch.”

Buckle also is a member of the Prep band, playing the saxophone, and will play baseball for St. Luke’s in the spring.

The organization that runs the game is Football University or FBU. For more information about the game, visit www.footballuniversity.org/eastbay-youth-all-american-bowl.
