Cal Ripken Baseball>Cub 10

The Russell Speeders' Royals beat the Citibank Tigers 4-0 on Saturday.  Timmy Hardy drove in two runs while Daniel Shullman and Ben Burns also had RBI for the Royals. Strong pitching from Frankie Ramppen, Will Shelden and Jack DeFrancesco held off the Athletics.

For the Tigers, great defensive plays by Ben Sarda and Kara Fahey,  along with the strong pitching from Grant Morse and Griffin Arnone, kept the game close.

The Rangers,  sponsored by the New Canaan Car Spa, defeated the Rays,  sponsored by Merrill Lynch New Canaan, 13-2 on Saturday.

The Rangers' offense was led by Jack McCarthy, Ryan Krolikowski and Jake Luther, who were 2-for-3 at the plate, while the defense threw out four runners attempting to steal.  

The Rays' offensive attack was led by Jeffrey Basta, Walker Ker and  Jack Conley, who had a long hit that almost went out of the park. A solid pitching performance by William Crane-Morris helped keep the Rangers' offense in check.

Cal Ripken Baseball>Major 70

The Bristol Partners Reds bested the Eighth Hurdle Communications Orioles 7-3  on Saturday. The Reds erupted for four runs in the seventh inning on a pair of two-run singles by Robby Jones and Will Tingley.

The Reds had taken a 3-1 lead on a two-run single by George Willis and an RBI single by Jones in the fitth, but the Orioles tied it in the bottom of the sixth as Thomas Reynolds and Justin Lampert scored on an RBI single by Ryan Radecki and an errant pickoff attempt.

Reds' pitching was highlighted by three scoreless innnings form starter Matt Lynch and a scoreless seventh from Matt Evans.

Cal Ripken Baseball>Bantam 8

The Frisco Roughriders defeated the Lansing Lugnuts 16-7 on Saturday. Griffin Koch led the Roughriders with five hits, four runs scored and three RBI. Andrew Rashad added three hits and three RBI for the winners, who broke it open with four runs in the third.

The Lugnuts were led by Jeremy Stewart (two hits and two runs scored)  and Austin Platt (two hits and two RBI).

George Megdanis snuffed out a potential rally by the Lugnuts with an unassisted double play on a line drive by Austin Platt.

Cal Ripken Baseball>Bantam 7

The New Canaan Cleaners Rochester Red Wings held off the Hutchinson Tree Care Toledo Mud Hens 11-10 on Saturday. The Red Wings jumped out to an early lead behind the big bats of Charlie Mehos, Arthur Stedman and Taylor Yancy. Colin Sampson, Jack Reed and Matthew Axon excelled on defense for the winners. 

The Mud Hens' offense was led by Chris Luchette, Michael O'Day and Benedikt Schumacher. On defense, Sully Franz, Tyler Morse and Jackson Slazyk stood out for the Mud Hens.

Babe Ruth Softball>Minors 10U

The Information Services Group Untouchables rallied from a 7-2 deficit to defeat the C & H Automotive Oilers 12-9 on Saturday for their first win of the season. The Untouchables' hitting attack was led by Morgan Hibbert and Caroline Cronin, who each had two hits and a walk.

Samantha Lauren Smith made her pitching debut, striking out the side in the final inning.

Oilers pitcher Sarah Street held the Untouchables in check early. Amanda Hill, Charlotte Hamilton and Jillian Augustine helped the Untouchables grab their early  five-run lead.

Cal Ripken Baseball>Cub 10

In the first game of the season, the Rangers, sponsored by the New Canaan Car Spa, defeated the Athletics, sponsored by the Bob's Sports,  15-4 on Wednesday. Stephen Wronski and Brandan Knightly led the Rangers with two hits apiece while Nathaniel Bozzella and Patrick Metzger pitched scoreless innings.

For the A's, Andrew Jordan went 3-for-3, Luke Morton and Will Rechtermann each had two hits and Chris Ayoub drove in a run in the fifth inning.
