Your interactive, daily digest for all New Canaan scores, schedules and standings — and a place for you to add information and images for all youth sports

Hockey: The Big Assist III, the hockey exhibition game hosted by Darien native Ryan Shannon, is set for Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Terry Conners Rink in Stamford.  The event once again will benefit the Obie Harrington-Howes Foundation.

Tickets are still available at Blueline Sports, Barrett Bookstore, and Darien/Rowayton branches of Fairfield County Bank.

Silent auction items available at the game include: signed sticks by Martin St. Louis and Shannon; a Sidney Crosby autographed jersey; and signed hats by Zdeno Chara, Patrice Bergeron and Jonathon Toews.

New Canaan Eliminated from 10-Year-Old Ripken State Tourney

New Canaan got off to a good start in the 10-year-old Cal Ripken state tournament, routing Coventry 11-3 in the first round.

But New Canaan lost its next game to Hebron 8-0 and was eliminated following a 17-5 setback to host Danbury. 

New Canaan won the district one title with four straight victories out of the loser's bracket after dropping its first game of the postseason.

 New Canaan's Cole Wins Rowing Bronze Medal

New Canaan's Charlie Cole was part of the U.S. men's fours team that won a rowing bronze medal at the Lucerne World Cup on Sunday.

Cole's team included Scott Gault (Piedmont, Calif.), Brett Newlin (Riverton, Wyo.) and Giuseppe Lanzone (Annandale, Va.).

The U.S. crew posted a time of 5:57.61, holding off Germany for its third-place finish.

Great Britain won the gold medal in 5:53.84, followed by Greece in 5:56.35 for the silver. The U.S crew is headed to the world championships next month.

New Canaan Fury playing in Ripken Tournament In Maryland

The New Canaan Fury U-13 baseball team is competing in the All-Star Week-Long Classic in Aberdeen, Md.

The tied its first game 10-10 in miraculous fashion, rallying from a 10-3 deficit in the bottom of the seventh inning, and is 2-1-1 in the tournament so far. Twelve teams are entered in the Cal Ripken event.

New Canaan's wins have come against the Bridgewater Americans (3-0) and the Long Island Yankees (4-3).  The team is in fifth place in the standings.

Darien/NC Junior Legion Keeps Slim Playoff Hopes Alive

The Darien/New Canaan  (11-12) senior American Legion team is back in action on Wednesday against Ridgefield at the old Ridgefield High School (5:30 p.m.). Darien needs to win three of its remaining four games to qualify for the state tournament.

The Darien/New Canaan junior team kept its slim playoff hopes alive with a 4-2 win over Wilton on Tuesday, improving to 12-12.

The juniors need to win their final three games to earn a postseason berth. Their next game is Thursday against Ridgefield at the old Ridgefield High School (5:30 p.m.)
