New Canaan will be the No. 2 seed for the double elimination portion of the 11-year-old Cal Ripken state tournament that begins on Saturday in Newtown.
Brookfield earned the top seed with a 7-2 win over previously unbeaten New Canaan in pool play on Thursday.
New Canaan had won its first two games in the tournament, including a 19-9 victory over New Fairfield in which it rallied from a 9-3 deficit by scoring 16 runs in the fourth inning.

Tommy McDonagh Entered In New England Mid-Amateur
After a three-week hiatus, former St. Luke's standout Tommy McDonagh is entered in the New England Amateur championship, which begins Tuesday at the Metacomet Country Club in East Providence, R.I.

This will be the first tournament for McDonagh, who plays out the Shorehaven Country Club, since he won the Connecticut Amateur championship and the Ike Campionship in a span of five days last month.
Other New Canaan players entered are recent New Canaan High graduate Brian Tohir and William Delano.
