New Canaan Sports Roundup: Feb. 17

Your interactive daily digest for all New Canaan scores, schedules and standings -- and a place to add information and images for all youth sports

The New Canaan High School boys hockey team seems to have righted the ship following its recent two-game slide, but the Rams are still no lock to make the playoffs under the FCIAC's new postseason format in which only the top six teams advance to the tier one playoffs.

Still, New Canaan appears to have momentum followed Tuesday's 4-0 win over rival Darien, the third straight victory for the Rams, who improved to 11-6-1 overall and 7-3 in the FCIAC.

With 14 points, New Canaan is  tied for fourth with Trinity Catholic and Wilton, who also are 7-3 in conference play. Fairfield (6-4) stayed in contention with a 5-1 win over Norwalk-McMahon on Wednesday.

New Canaan has a huge game on Saturday against St. Joseph (12-6, 8-3), which is in third place with 16 points, at the Shelton Rinks at 8 p.m.

Should the Rams lose, they could be in danger of falling to seventh and missing the tier one playoffs. Fairfield has a tiebreaker edge over New Canaan based on a 5-4 victory against the Rams on Feb. 4.
