The Ridgefield andgirls hockey teams will clash on Thursday at the Terry Conners Rink in Stamford for a berth in the finals of the state tournament. Faceoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
New Canaan, which is seeking a third consecutive state title, has been like a steam roller. After defeating Greenwich 8-0 in the FCIAC finals on Saturday, the Rams downed Guilford 8-2 in the quarterfinals on Tuesday to improve to 22-1.
Ridgefield (15-6-1) advanced with a dramatic 5-4 victory over Greenwich as Megan Galloway scored the winning goal in the final minute after the Cardinals had erased a 4-2 deficit late in the third period.
The state championsip game is set for Yale's Ingalls Rink on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
After scoring six goals against Greenwich, Hompe followed up with five goals and three assists against Guilford, giving her 108 points for the season (74 goals, 34 assists).
She became the state's all-time leading scorer against Greenwich, surpassing the previous mark of 263 points held by New Canaan graduate Maggie Westphal, who went to play at Yale for four seasons.
New Canaan beat Ridgefield twice during the regular season but other than a 4-3 loss to Simsbury on Feb. 6, the Tigers gave the Rams perhaps their two toughest games of the season.
New Canaan posted a pair of two-goal wins, 3-1 on Dec. 19 and 4-2 on Feb. 1. Hompe was held to one goal in the first game and two in the second.
Thursday's contest is a rematch of last year's state final in which New Canaan posted a 7-2 victory.
