New Canaan Wins Second Straight FCIAC Girls Swimming Title

New Canaan won its second straight FCIAC girls swimming championship Saturday afternoon at the Greenwich High School pool.

The Rams posted a winning total of 396.00 points, outdistancing Greenwich (334.00) and Wilton (321.50) to capture consecutive crowns for the first time since 1978-79.

Maddie Rusch led New Canaan to wins in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly events while the Rams also had first-place finishes in the 200 and 400 freestyle relays.

Greewich's only win came from Lauren Church in the 100 backstroke, although the Cardinals' relay team of Church, Kim Hill, Sam Hill and Morgan Karetnick finished second in the 400 freestyle.

Wilton's Kaylin was named the swimmer of the meet, winning three events, teamming with Stephanie Moriarty, Caroline O'Brien and Kristen Moss to take the 200 medley relay. Her other wins came in the 100 breaststroke and 200 individual medley.

St. Joseph's Katy Luchanshy took the 100 and 200 freestyle and Verity Abel of Staples won the 500 freestyle.
