Scorecard: Girls Hockey Smashes Warriors

Rams win 7-1 for their seventh straight victory in a so far flawless season.

The Rams girls hockey team piled on the offense in the first two periods against the Wilton Warriors, putting the game away 7-1 without having to hit net in the third.

Corbett Ripley fired a top shelf goal off a feed from Madzie Carroll to start the scoring just over a minute after the opening drop. Jana Persky then made it 2-0 on a power play 5:41 in.

But Wilton was quick to answer just 14 seconds later. The Warrior's junior captain Lara Schnitzler hit an unassisted goal off a rebound in traffic in front of Charlotte Spitzfaden. That would be the only score the Rams goalie would allow.

New Canaan made it 3-1 late in the first when Olivia Hompe took a pass in the slot from Persky and beat Wilton goalie Emily Tucker.

The Rams had two double-scoring bursts in the second period. Ripley backhanded a loose puck in traffic 5:39 in; 34 second later, on almost the same play, she completed her hat trick with an assist from Maggie Burke. With just over four minutes left in the second the Rams pounded in two more: on a breakaway Persky beat Tucker stick side; 11 seconds later on the same shift Hompe beat a defender and then deked the goalie to make it 7-1 at the end of two.

Despite lots of opportunities, no goals were scored in the third, but the Rams kept the Warriors away from the net to seal the victory.

The Rams, now 7-0 on the season, play the Fairfield Ludlowe/Warde co-op team Monday night at Wonderland Ice Rink.
