Scorecard: Rams Girls Hockey Trounces Trumbull

New Canaan keeps the shots and goals coming.

Rams goalie Charlotte Spitzfaden stopped all 7 shots Trumbull could muster Saturday night as New Canaan's girls hockey team again dominated the offensive ice. The Rams posted a 7-0 shutout in their 17th win of the season. 

Shelby Barada opened the scoring 3:20 into the first period off Maggie Burke had won a face-off, sending the puck back to Barada who launched it top shelf through traffic. 

About two and half minutes later, Jana Persky, Bea Eppler, and Olivia Hompe teamed up to break the puck out of the zone, then Persky beat Trumbull goalie Katie Palmer with a back hand to make it 2-0 at the end of one period.

The Rams piled it on in the second period, scoring four more goals. 

At the 3:18 mark, it was Barada going high from the point again, this time off a feed from Bianca Schultz—3-0 Rams.

Corbett Ripley intercepted the puck in the neutral zone on a penalty kill, skated by a defender, and then beat Palmer for an unassisted short-handed goal at 5:16 in the second—4-0 Rams. 

Then Barada was in the mix again, this time with a feed to Persky en route to the zone; Persky deked the goalie and put it in at 8:40—5-0 Rams. 

Olivia Hompe got her own unassisted score not quite three minutes later as she cleared the puck out of the zone, skated down, and beat goalie Julie Spinelli top shelf—6-0 Rams.   

Shelby Barada tacked on one more in the third. With a feed from Persky, she skated into the zone, beat a defender, and ripped off a shot, completing her first varsity hat trick. 

With the 7-0 final over Trumbull, the Rams have now outscored their opponents 86-15 as they close in on the end of the regular season. 

The Rams face Guilford at the East Haven Ice Rink Tuesday, Feb. 16, at 3:45 p.m.
