Scorecard: Rams Place Second in Eastern Division

New Canaan's stars—Caroline Murray and Alex Spinu—keep shining.

Strong individual performances ruled the day as the New Canaan Rams Boys and Girls indoor track teams finished second of six teams at the FCIAC Eastern Division Championship in Wilton on Saturday.

For the girls, New Canaan's Caroline Murray continued to dominate in the mid- to long-distance races, taking first in the Girls 1000 meter and 3200 meter competitions.  New Canaan's Melanie Escalante also took two first place ribbons, winning the 300 meter dash and the 600 meter run. Emily Milano finished second in the girls shot put with a throw of 30'11".  The New Canaan Girls 4x750 relay team also collected a gold early in the day, with a time of 9:47.9, decisively beating Fairfield Warde, Darien, and Wilton's A teams.

For the New Canaan boys, Pat Daly won the 1000 meter run in a seesaw battle with Darien's John Conley, finishing in 2:43:95. Sophomore Alex Spinu gathered a second place finish in the boys 1600 meter run and a 5th place finish in the 3200 meter race.  New Canaan hurdlers Grayson Cordes and Will Guynn went 1-2 in the boys 45 meter hurdles. Jeff Spindel was second in the boys' high jump, with Taylor Lysenko again proving himself the master of the boys' pole vault, taking first place with a vault of 12'06". New Canaan's A team also won the boys 4x375 meter relay, knocking off Wilton and Darien, who went 2-3.

The teams head to the FCIAC Championship next Saturday, Feb. 6, at Staples.
