Swimmers Ready for Season Closer

Rams set their sights on the CIAC Open.

Darien and New Canaan finished one-two in the Connecticut Class M Championships on Tuesday night in New Haven, and look to build on that stellar finish Saturday afternoon at the CIAC Girl's Open Swimming Championship.

The Rams and Blue Wave were neck and neck for the majority of the Class M meet, but Darien was able to swim away from the pack by winning the relays, as the team events were where they scored the key points to take them to the title. They'll look to duplicate the performances Saturday afternoon at Yale University.

This win was the ninth state title for Darien, as they beat second place New Canaan 873.5 to 840. The Wilton Warriors came in a distant third with 517 total points.

The lead swung back and forth between Darien and New Canaan throughout the Class M meet, with New Canaan leading going into the final event, the 400 freestyle relay. Needing a win to take the title, the Blue Wave got just that riding the strokes of Cali Ceglarksi, Katie Rohn, Sam Berizzi and Katie Orem.

Other top finishers for Darien were Orem, Cammie Kirby, Rebecca Liu, and Catherine Treesh in the 200 medley relay, Alex Leinroth in one meter diving, and Orem in the 100-yard backstroke.
