Storm Football Scores Exciting Senior Day Win Against Pennington

Seven members of the St. Luke’s Storm football program played their final home game on Saturday, a 28-20 senior day victory over Pennington School (Pennington, NJ). Peter Baritz ’14, Paul Freeman ’14, Bryan Latoracca ’14, Ben Lavietes ’14, Robert Luchars ’14, Chris Shurr ’14, and Robert Wood ’14 were honored at halftime as a part of the senior day festivities.

Quarterback Alex Libman ’15 opened the scoring for the Storm early in the second quarter. Following big runs by Justin Brown ’17 and JB Boggs ’15, Libman ran the ball in on a quarterback keeper for the game’s first touchdown. The Storm went into halftime holding on to the 7-0 lead.

Early in the third quarter, strong runs by Boggs and Baritz moved the Storm up the field quickly, setting up a Libman-to-Baritz touchdown pass on a deceptive play action fake to Boggs. Ben Rappaport ’15 connected on the extra point to extend the Storm lead to 14-0.

Justin Brown closed the third quarter with a long touchdown run, giving St. Luke’s a 21-0 lead heading into the fourth, with the game looking well in hand. The Red Raiders would break their silence with a touchdown on a screen pass midway through the fourth, but Brown answered with another long run, this one nearing 50 yards. After failing to recover a very good onside kick, Pennington’s defense held the Storm and got the ball back, and quickly moved up the field for their second score. After a successful two-point conversion the St. Luke’s lead was cut to 28-14.

Pennington’s defense remained opportunistic with St. Luke’s looking to run out the clock, recovering a fumble on a Storm pitch and taking 70 yards up the sideline for a touchdown. Paul Freeman came up with a sack on the two-point conversion attempt, keeping the Storm lead at 28-20. Pennington lined up once again for an onside kick, but St. Luke’s was able to recover, and on this drive, the Storm successfully ran down the clock to secure the victory.
