Stoddard Art Lecture Features Byzantine and Islamic Art

At the Library on Sunday, October 20 at 5:00 p.m.

Metropolitan Museum of Art curator of the Byzantine collection, Helen C. Evans, is the guest lecturer for the Library’s 3rd annual Stoddard Art Lecture. Evans, the Mary and Michael Jaharis Curator for Byzantine Art at The Met,  will speak about “The Arts of Byzantium and Islam.”

This year’s Stoddard Art Lecture will be held on Sunday, October 20, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. in the Library’s Adrian Lamb Room.  Following the lecture, a reception will be held in the H. Pelham Curtis Gallery.

In additional to her curatorial role at the Metropolitan, Ms. Evans is the editor of three books on the subject: Byzantium: Faith and Power (1261-1557); The Glory of Byzantium: Art and Culture of the Middle Byzantine Era, A.D. 843-1261; and her most recent, Byzantium and Islam: Age of Transition.

The Stoddard Art Lecture series was established in the fall of 2011, to enrich and broaden the community’s understanding and enjoyment of the visual arts in all forms. The lecture is made possible through a patron’s generous gift, in honor of Pat and Hud Stoddard. To support this fund to continue to provide excellent programs, a $10 donation is suggested.
