Why are Holiday Lights Going Up Now?

The Chamber of Commerce funds and arranges for all the holiday lights in the downtown area, this is not a town effort.

funds and arranges for all the holiday lights in the downtown area, this is not a town effort. With many people still without power in NC I realize that many could be questioning why, with the week we have all been through, that the town would be putting up the lights at this time.

The fact is that this is a private contract between the Chamber and the tree company and has NOTHING to do with the town. Every year, the Chamber embarks on this initiative and our challenge has been to make the residents aware that because of the generosity of many businesses and residents makes it possible. The annual cost for the lights project is $18K and again, is solely the responsibility of the Chamber.

Any and all donations welcome by contacting the Chamber at 203-966-2004 or sending a check made payable to the Village Lights at 91 Elm Street, New Canaan. I hope this clears up any confusion.
