Grilled Flank Steak

Barbecue weekend is here!  Here is a tried and true Grilled Flank Steak recipe.  The key is the marinade so it take a little planning ahead.  Fire up those grills this Memorial Day Weekend even if it is raining!

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 Pounds Flank Steak
  • 2 Chopped Garlic Cloves
  • 1/2 Cup Soy Sauce
  • 4 Tablespoons Fresh Lime Juice
  • 2 Tablespoons Olive Oil
  • 1 Tablespoon Toasted Sesame Oil
  • 1 Tablespoon Hot Sauce
  • 1 Tablespoon Kosher Salt
  • 1 Tablespoon Brown Sugar
  • 4 Chopped Shallots

SERVES FOUR

  1. In a large measuring cup or mixing bowl combine the garlic, soy sauce, lime juice, lemon juice, olive oil, toasted sesame oil, hot sauce, kosher salt, brown sugar and chopped shallots.
  2. Mix well.
  3. Place the steak in a large resealable plastic bag and pour the marinade in the bag over the steak.
  4. Press out the excess air and turn the bag around to get the steak coated.
Refrigerate overnight turning the bag occasionally.
  5. To grill the steak: Remove the steak from the refrigerator and remove from the bag.
  6. Place on a large plate and let sit for 45 minutes to room temperature.
  7. Prepare the grill to a medium hot fire.  Grill the steak for 6 minutes on each side for medium rare.
  8. Remove from the grill and transfer to a cutting board.
  9. Let rest for 10 minutes.
  10. Thinly slice against the grain.  Transfer to a serving platter.

Sound heavenly. Thanks. We are not allowed to BBQ at the condo (Guess, that is ONE condo rule that MIGHT make sense) So, we can always take Hibatchi to a park or something. I will have to try this

How does government allow a private management company to deprive you of the useage of your own property, these rights of property and privilege are protected by the federal constitution? Is one allowed to take a sh*t at their own condo?

@Louis,
True. But in a condo complex, considering how close the homes are to one another, the risk of a fire is too great and would possibly affect the whole of the condo community. Perhaps it is not that the private management is forbidding the use of outdoor grills, but instead a common-sense consensus that is agreed upon by the inhabitants of said condo complex for the common good of all. I would not wish to lose my home due to a rogue fire from an outdoor grill on my neighbor's porch.

I agree w/Donny on the BBQ thing. I agree though w/Louis in general. We BUY the Condo. It is OURS. We PAY a monthly common charge. PLUS, I forgot to note this the other day. We pay tax to the town....and still whoever it is wants to tell us what we can have, not have, do and not do??? Really... There are more rules in this society than **** has liver pills (I am not allowed to write the name I do not think)

What? Condos? Thank you tiny new york kitchen for this easy recipe! Gonna get out the charcoal!

...and when your grass grows, you're not expected to mow it. When your roof leaks, you aren't expected to fix it. When a tree falls, you don't have to pay to have it removed. If you have a pool in your complex, you get to use it without the responsibility of taking care of it. If your deck rots, you don't have to rebuild it. When it snows, you don't need to get a plow.
Common charges are pooled to allow for these types of things to be taken care of so you don't have to do it. It's convenience. It's why people buy condo's instead of houses. If you don't like it...maybe you should have purchased a house?
louis May 25, 2012 at 08:40 pm
Yes that is why you pay a common charge. In the 80's it was about $30 a month. Lets do the math, with lets say 50 units, that's $1500 a month they receive for the upkeep of the property. never was there any talk that they owned an equitable interest in the property, or that they could limit reasonable useage. I'm with you Leslie, fire up the cooker, I'm gonna enjoy the recipe, too!

People buy condo's, well they did initally because, get this, they were cheaper than real estate costs for detached homes in the 'burbs. They were affordable alternatives for young people and empty nesters. But we know what happens when greed factors in. If these management companies actually knew how to manage, instead of sending the pot of cash to some slob in North jersey, I'm pretty sure they would find someone to cut the grass for $1500 a month!

Love the charcoal grill over the gas grill. Have a great weekend Ms. Yager!

I have an apt in NYC where there is no way that I can BBQ. I just recently purchased a house in Wilton. The very first things that I did was go out and purchase a charcoal grill. I had been craving grilling for a very long time. I have to say that when I need to drive back to the city late Sunday nights I am not happy about it. Let me know if you try my recipe and how you like it! Have a great weekend!

Charcoal is better Victoria, I can't think of anything better than a nice spicy Malbec or New Zealand Shiraz to accompany! Thanks for the recipe, I'll save enough room for desert and daydreaming on the patio

I see your point Christine to a point. Politely speaking..you forgot something.. They are always sending you stuff in the mail about voting and meetings and nonsense like that which none of us really care about. ALSO, YES..on the snow removal. YET, we still have to brush off our car and dig out around our car.

Why is it the panel for this event does not include a single advocate for gun-owners' rights? WithRead More all due respect to Chief McNamara, why does the panel no include a person who can speak to gun safety from a gun-owning civilian's perspective? ML, you claim that the assembled folks "do not offer judgements about gun ownership" but they are not including a single voice that can offer perspective on gun ownership. I have been to "education" sessions sponsored by Meg's March for Change and they are one-sided indoctrinations into gun control advocacy. >>>> I was in Hartford for the public hearings in January when both Meg and March co-founder Nancy gave their personal testimonies and they all but threatened the legislators on the panel with election day retribution for all those who did not tow the gun-control line of thinking (i.e. March and CAGV). To suggest that Meg "does not offer judgements" if fallacious at best, disingenuous at worst.

US Representative Larson is now on board, which leaves Rep. DeLauro and Senator Murphy. Neither ofRead More their staffers are forthcoming about why they have not co-sponsored. Please call their DC offices and urge them to stop up. Murphy has supposedly received only 40 calls on the subject.

Unknown to most parents, children’s data is being shared beyond the school district with sixRead More agencies inside the Utah Data Alliance and UTREX, according to Utah Technology Director John Brandt. The student data is further being “mashed” with federal databases, according to federal Education Dept. Chief of Staff Joanne Weiss: http://blogs.edweek.org/edweek/inside-school-research/2012/07/ed_urges_states_to_make_data_s.html While John Brandt assures us that only a handful of people in Utah have access to the personally identifiable data of children, recent alterations to federal FERPA (Famly Education Rights Privacy Act) regulations which were made by the U.S. Dept of Education, have radically redefined terms and widened the window of groups who can access private data without parental consent. For more on that, see the lawsuit against the U.S. Dept of Education on the subject: http://epic.org/apa/ferpa/default.html But first, an interjection: I want to introduce this article: http://seattleducation2010.wordpress.com/2013/01/02/your-students-privacy/ I like this article because it exposes the facts plainly, that parents are unaware that their children’s information is being shared without parental permission, beyond the school, beyond the district, and even beyond the state. It is verifiable and true. What it means: Courses taken, grades earned, every demographic piece of information, including family names and income, is being watched by the U.S. government via schools. Verify for yourself: The U.S. Dept. of Education’s own explanation is here, showing why SLDS systems exist: http://www2.ed.gov/programs/slds/factsheet.html

Why does ANY of this surprise you? You can take the man out of Chicago... Where is the outrageRead More across the land? Why do we sheepishly respond to these multiple malfeasances? Obama will stay in office and do what he wants until 2016 for one reason. Two words. President Biden.
