New Canaan: Winter Storm Hercules Hub

Winter Storm Hercules, as it's been dubbed by The Weather Channel, will be moving into the region today and dumping some snow on us overnight, so this hub is where New Canaan Patch will be tracking all developments related to the storm. To follow along with developments in real-time from home or work, here's a link to the National Weather Service page tracking that info.

What's Open, What's Closed:

It's already been announced that New Canaan Public Schools will be dismissed early Thursday. On Friday, residents can check this site to see what the call has been for Friday's classes. As for town services themselves, New Canaan Director of the Office of Emergency Management Michael Handler had this to say:

"We are monitoring conditions closely but at this time there is no need to open the Emergency Operations Center," said Handler. "The Town's emergency services and public works departments are staffed and prepared."

The New Canaan Library has also made the decision to close early Thursday, shutting its doors at 6 p.m.

The 8 p.m. Parking Commission meeting scheduled for the Lapham Center's Douglass Room has been canceled.

Access Health CT "enrollment centers will close at 3pm today (1/2/14) and will be closed on Friday Jan. 3, 2014." -- a tweet from the agency

If you're a juror scheduled to appear in a state courthouse on Friday -- don't. That's according to this tweet from the Connecticut Judicial Branch.

Connecticut government offices are closing early on Thursday, some starting at 3 p.m.

Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles offices closed at 3 p.m. Thursday, the department announced in an email sent at ... 2:55 p.m.

"[T]he Department of Motor Vehicles is cancelling all road tests for tomorrow (Friday, Jan. 3). The cancellation is due to expected inclement weather and poor road conditions. Anyone with a scheduled road test can call DMV to choose a new date. The numbers to call are 860-263-5700 if someone is within the Hartford area and toll-free 800-842-8222 for those outside the Hartford area. DMV is also attempting to contact customers with road test appointments to advise them of the schedule change."
