Opened in 2010 by Susan and Pierre Gilissen, Belgique Chocolatier on Elm Street is the New Canaan location of the couple's Kent-based chocolate business. In the past, Mr. Gilissen served as executive chef and manager for the Netherlands' Ambassador to the United States, and Belgique's chocolates were served at a state dinner at the British Embassy in Washington, DC with President George W. Bush and Queen Elizabeth II in 2007. The shop offers a variety of hand-made, preservative-free Belgian chocolate 'pralines', crafted from the finest ingredients. The shop also sells imported Belgian chocolate bars, coffee by Cafe Liegeois, authentic Belgian hot chocolate and seasonal specialties like duck foie gras terrine from the Perigord region in France served with brioche.
