East Elementary School

East School is one of New Canaan's three public elementary schools, along with South School and West School.

The school has 27 home rooms, and a playground that neighbors are welcome to use any time.

Principal Bunny Potts is a 23-year resident of New Canaan, and her kids went to East School. She describes the school as a family oriented place where "parents are encouraged to take an active role in their child's education."

The school provides many opportunities for student leadership, especially for third and fourth graders, from the Editorial Board that selects student writing for display and publication to Wee Deliver, a program through which students send and recieve mail from each other within the school.

There is also an emphasis on community service. The day before the Thanksgiving break is set aside for a day of service (previously known as Grandparents' Day) during which students do everything from putting together care packages for soldiers to making placemats for the Waveny Care Center. Around the holidays the school collects gift cards for the needy.

Even if you never have a student at East School, if you have children you'll be sure to show up for the Spooktacular Fair put on each October.

East School's motto is "Work hard and be kind." The East School Eagle is the mascot.
