The New Canaan Beautification League was established in 1939 with a mission to encourage and promote community improvement and beautification through horticultural and educational programs, environmental awareness and responsible conservation practices.

Volunteers design, plant and maintain 32 roadway triangles and civic areas with flowers and shrubs, and maintain hanging baskets in downtown during the summer months.

The League was bequeathed the 2.7-acre Lee Garden at 89 Chichester Road, developed by George S. Lee Jr., which it maintains for public tours and hikes. Monthly programs on gardening and horticulture are free and open to the public.

Originally called the Garden Center of New Canaan, the organization changed its name in March 2012.
