Founded in 1916, New Canaan Country School says its mission is to "guide student to reach their intellectual, creative, moral, and physical potential." The school values the imagination and curiosity of children, and teachers challenge students to question.

The Country School also puts emphasis on community service and environmental responsiblity. The George E. Stevens upper school building is LEED certified; and the ninth grade runs the Special Olympics hosted by the school each year.

There are opportunities for all kids to play sports and get involved in music and theater. Experiential learning is another big focus. Students tag horseshoe crabs and sea turtles; they tap maple trees and make their own syrup. Students do team building exercises on the ropes course in the school's 35-acre nature preserve.

The school's motto means "fortune favors the bold," and adminstrators stress that the Country School is a safe place to take risks.
