New Canaan High School is known for its rigorous academics. SAT scores are the highest in the state, AP test scores are also strong. The JETS team is ranked number one nationally in its divison.

The football team has been state champion for three years running. Several lacrosse team alums have gone on to coach at the college level.

The drama program puts on at least half a dozen shows each year, inlcuding three musicals, a one-act, a student plays festival, and a dance show. The high school's 2010 production of "The Mystery of Edwin Drood" won seven statewide drama awards.

Principal Tony Pavia came to the high school in midst of major growth of the size of the student body, and so he has overseen the expansion of elective course offerings and extra curricular activites. There's a T.V. studio and yearbook is a course now. Career and technical education now includes everything from drafting and engineering, to cooking and childcare, to business.

A major renovation and expansion of the high school building was completed in 2007.

  • How engaged is the school with the community?: The high school has a number of ongoing service projects. The TV studio records community events and public meetings for the local public access and educational channels. Lectures and performances are often open to the community at large.
