The Glass House
203-966-8167
Known as New Canaan's architectural gem, the Glass House was designed by Philip Johnson and constructed in 1949. The house sits on a property of 47 acres that functions as an outdoor gallery of modern architecture and art as the property is also home to Johnson's Brick House and other sculptures, a swimming pool, galleries and a library.
The site may only be accessed through a guided tour. Tickets for 90-minute and 2-hour tours as well as private tours may be bought online or by phone. Tours begin at the Glass House visitor center, across from the New Canaan trains station. Visitors can catch shuttles to the property at the visitor center. The visitor center contains a media center, where video related to the architecture is shown, as well as a very modern and minimalist gift shop that sells art books, postcards, designed bags, t-shirts, pottery and more.
