Just outside of the center of town, Waveny Park is New Canaan's ultimate public park.  With entrances on South Avenue and Lapham Road, Waveny Park is open to all town residents and covers 250 acres of land offering everything from paddle courts and over three miles of jogging and walking trails, to a theatre and an art center.

Host of New Canaana's Annual Fourth of July Fireworks and Annual Easter Egg Hunt, Waveny Park is also home to the Powerhouse Performing Arts Center and the Carriage Barn

Built at the beginning of the 20th century, the Waveny mansion is the park's centerpiece and was once a summer home to some of New Canaan's most elite residents. Now, the castle-sized building is available for rent for special events and parties and is a popular wedding venue.

The New Canaan Recreation Department office is also located in the Waveny house.

Golfers can often be found practing their drive in the open field by Waveny house, and there's also a 12-hole frisbee golf course in the park.

Next to the Waveny Park Swimming Pool is Spencer's Run Dog Park - a designated, fenced section of the park that invites all of our furry best friends to roam free. Waveny Park requires that dogs remain leashed at all times except when inside Spencer's Run Dog Park.

Nice large open spaces. Unfortunately it's open to vehicular traffic and if you come in with small children, beware. Drivers barrel down the narrow roads and act surprised and angry when they see pedestrians. A real park would have a parking lot near the entrance and if you want to be one with nature, WALK there. Even Central Park in NYC is closed to traffic on weekends. Also, too much garbage in the grass, from spat out mouthpieces to old drink bottles and other biowaste that a toddler will pick up and mouth in a split second.

Sorry you had a bad experience at Waveny, especially for your wedding. If you have a complaint, you should probably address it to the Town of New Canaan (either the First Selectman or the Parks & Rec department), since the facility is owned and operated by the town and is not a member of the Chamber of Commerce.

Don't use this space. The people who run it are racist and horrible. We had the worst night of our lives here for our wedding when the janitor serving up as the main "host" harassed my family and nearly physically assaulted by fiance. We wrote note after note to the New Canaan Chamber of Commerce and to others and never received a reply--not even an apology note. Do yourselves a favor--this place is bad news with bad kharma.
