Is so-called “natural” gas really "environmentally friendly," though? CheckRead More out sometime how this “natural” gas is obtained. There are serious, widespread concerns about the vast amounts of water that gas extraction uses and pollutes, with chemicals the extraction companies don’t care to disclose. We get cheaper gas on our end, but on the other end of the pipeline, in places like Pennsylvania, the environmental cost can be staggering. And I’m not prepared to put this industrial gas operation within Waveny Park, which I thought was protected by deed restrictions from exactly this kind of land grab.

I agree w/Pauly. I think if it would save them money all for it. You are the best Pauly. You areRead More my idyll buddy. Nice haircut LOL Just kidding pal. The years have been good to you. Wish I could say the same for me. Say hi to everyone there for me.

Question is will the businesses who want it contribute towards the cost to run the gas pipes fromRead More Waveny Park to their resturants?

Thanks for sharing those! The Slip and Slide has occupied my kids for many a summer afternoon. LoveRead More the giant ball! We also love Ogo Sport stuff. And you can't go wrong with letting kids loose with a bag of balloons and a hose. What are your go-to backyard summer fun activities?

You go girl!
Blast from the past May 18, 2013 at 09:36 am
Back in the sixties there was indeed a cheese shop in virtually the same location...lasted anoutRead More five years.
Glen K Dunbar May 16, 2013 at 07:29 pm
I wonder if they will open a cheese shop, bakery or an OTB That would be so awesome. on anRead More unrelated note....New Canaan sure needs better cell hone service. Just mentioning it
Bradley Cooper is hot!!!! May 16, 2013 at 07:49 am
Sorry. They are all equally annoying. I think that all the chain stores take away the character ofRead More this town. The preppy clothing stores here are ubiquitous and it would be nice to see something that brings a new look to the table, something fresh and unique. Boring polos, sweaters, dresses, no thanks.
Four Jacks May 14, 2013 at 08:14 pm
Another store that can't speak or contribute or hang a poster in its window without "corporateRead More approval."
Canaanite May 14, 2013 at 02:34 pm
What's wrong with Vineyard Vines? I don't shop there myself, but it caters to a niche market whichRead More many people in this New England town belong to. I don't think they are any more annoying than J Crew . . . or J Crew Kids . . . now THAT'S annoying!
Baffled Resident May 15, 2013 at 06:27 pm
Finally, a Really? column that is worthwhile. Thanks DJ.

I am glad someone finally called out Mobil on their price gauging. It's ridiculous and a smartRead More shopper will not buy gas at Mobil, period. I know I never do. It's the principle of the thing - paying more when you can pay less is dumb. But guess what? I don't ever see that station empty . . . people pay. Whatever, it's their money. But still, I am glad someone else sees what's going on and is outraged.

Justsayin.... May 7, 2013 at 01:55 pm
From Pisco, Peru originally. It's a grape brandy and the pisco sour was made popular in Chile. MostRead More Chileans would say it's their national drink down (along with good wine). They also often mix it with cola which is aptly named a Piscola. The stuff most people drink is only a few dollars a bottle but they make higher end stuff too. Never had a problem with the egg whites.
Conrad Banks May 7, 2013 at 10:19 am

Glen K Dunbar May 7, 2013 at 08:54 am

So pleased to see Lou opening a shop, we used his "on-call" service to get our bikesRead More fixed, Lou is very knowledgable and did a great job. With the new cycle lanes on South, maybe we can get more people cylcling and drivers in town, noticing and treating cyclists with respect.
HF May 4, 2013 at 07:17 am
This is awesome - Cycles on Call offers the best service! Now to be able to walk in to the shopRead More downtown -- what more could you want?! See you there!

Lisa Buchman (Editor) May 2, 2013 at 10:31 am
Nice to know a local retailer will replace a chain store. What would folks like to see there?
Mfrances82 May 1, 2013 at 09:49 am
@Glen--OTB? Really? Why not a strip club?
Glen K Dunbar April 30, 2013 at 07:12 pm
I wonder about the old location. I think an OTB is an excellent idea to put there. No if and orRead More but about it
Baffled Resident April 30, 2013 at 09:00 pm
A bulldozer. That strip building is so bland and tired looking.
Glen K Dunbar April 30, 2013 at 01:32 pm
OTB for sure !!!!! No if/and/but about it
Richard Cranium April 24, 2013 at 02:22 pm
I can't wait to wear my pink trousers emblazoned with those cute little whales. I also plan to wearRead More my purple polo shirt with the collar turned up and wear my Docksiders sans socks. Don't forget the cool shades and moused hair. I hope I don't get my ass kicked though...

I can't wait to buy my sailing attire at the new Vineyard Vines store. I don't own a yacht, but IRead More like to pretend for appearances sake. I'll be the one dressed like Judge Smails.
