Vine Cottage, the home of the Human Services Department, is the gateway for youth, family, senior, and general socialMore services available to the community. </p> <p>The mission of Human Services is to help all New Canaan residents to thrive. It develops programs and activities that address residents' developmental needs and it assists residents in finding the social services and resources they need.</p> <p>Human Services provides a full range of services from adult day care and assistance with Medicare Part D applications, to food pantry vouchers and help navigating the Husky program, to legal aid and financial assistance. The department also provides information to the community through programs like the domestic violence awareness campaign and parenting classes. </p> <p>If they can't help you in house, they will refer you to the agency or organization that can. </p> <p>Residents are encouraged to call Human Services or visit Vine Cottage for any kind of assistance.  If you need help outside of normal business hours, call Connecticut's <a href="http://www.infoline.org/">211 info line</a>. </p>

Saxe Middle School

Saxe is New Canaan's public middle school for students in grades 5-8.

Grade 5 students are assigned to aMore homeroom. Pairs of fifth grade homerooms are combined into teams in which the two teachers share the core academic instruction. Special area teachers provide instruction in science, physical education, art, and music.</p> <p>Grades 6, 7, and 8 are organized into four-homeroom teams for social studies, science, math, and language arts instruction. Physical education, art, music, and also world languages are taught by special area teachers.</p> <p>Middle School Choices—a coalition of town and school agencies including the Recreation Department, the YMCA, the Outback, the Youth Services Department and the Parent-Teacher Conference—organizes after school activities at Saxe and the Outback teen center throughout the academic year for middle school students.</p> <p>Saxe strives to build community that obides by the "3 C's"—caring, communication, and commitment.</p> <p>The school opened in 1932 and moved to its current location on South Avenue near New Canaan High School in 1971.</p>
