Each magazine has a sub-section on the company's Web site, with glossy photos and categories for food and drink, fashion, home and garden and a detailed calendar of events.</p> <p>In the past, that was a solid formula for money-making in the affluent communities along Connecticut's southern coast, but a stalled  economy has forced the company to retrench somewhat, laying off 18 of 51 staffers last November and reducing publication for New Canaan-Darien Magazine to bi-monthly from monthly.</p>
