South School, located across from New Canaan High School on Farm Road, is one of New Canaan's three public elementary…More schools, along with East and West schools, for students in kindergarten through grade 4. </p> <p>The school provides vast opportunities for civic engagement and student leadership beyond the classroom including the student council and the Kids in Community Service Program. The school also hosts regular art shows and science fairs, along with a yearly Reading Celebration and Technology Night.</p> <p>As part of efforts to reduce racial, ethnic, and economic isolation of its students, South School has sustained a nine-year partnership with Webster School in Bridgeport. South's student leadership team brings books and reading materials to each first grade student at Webster during a visit to that school.</p> <p>The Parent-Teacher Conference organizes after school enrichment programs.</p>

West School is one of New Canaan's three public elementary schools, along with East and South schools, for students…More in kindergarten through fourth grade. </p> <p>Even before Spanish was added to the regular lesson schedule at all New Canaan's elementary schools for the 2009-2010 academic year, classes in Spanish, French, Italian, and Mandarin Chinese were available to West School students before and after school.</p> <p>The Student Council, Bus Leader, and Tech Rangers programs provide leadership opportunities for third and fourth graders. The Kids Care Club has organized food, book, and clothing drives to benefit area shelters and food banks. The spring art show provides gallery space for every West School student. Five "CARE Conventions" are held each year during which students can showcase their talents.</p> <p>If you see a car with its bumper adorned with a green whale, it probably belongs to a West School parent.</p>
