One  full-time and two part-time Animal Control officers respond to calls regarding dog bites, bats flyingMore indoors, battles between dogs and wild life, roaming dogs, and rabies risks.</p> <p>Animal Control also keeps track of bears and coyotes that occasionally wander through town. If you see a coyote add a report to the sightings map at <a href="http://patch.com/gAMG">http://patch.com/gAMG </a> and be sure to call it in to 203-594-3510.</p> <p>Stray dogs will be taken in and put up for adoption after seven days. Lost and found cats are only logged.</p> <p>Once a year, Animal Control joins Strays and Others in sponsoring a low-cost rabies vaccination and spaying and neutering clinic.</p> <p>Animal Control is part of the Police Department.</p>

The New Canaan Police Department has 43 officers responsible for public safety and law enforcement in town.

More <p>The force includes a motorcycle traffic patrol and bike patrol. A full-time school resource officer is in place at New Canaan High School and a part-time officer at Saxe Middle School. New Canaan's Animal Control officers are also part of the force.</p> <p>The Police Department offers finger printing services, background checks for local employers, child IDs and safety seat installations, and officers will even check on your house when you're away.</p> <p>If a club, school or organization would like Officer McFadden and K9 Zira to come and do a demonstration they should contact Officer McFadden at: 203-594-3543.</p> <p>If you're in pursuit of a pistol permit or a raffle permit, they're available here.</p>
