Chris worked for newspapers for 18 years and has written for many outlets, including The New York Times, the Yale Forum on Climate Change and the Media, Nature Climate Change, and the Connecticut Mirror. She wrote the book <i>Energy Independence: Your Everyday Guide to Reducing Fuel Consumption</i> (Lyons Press) and an essay on getting stuck in a thunderstorm for Soul of the Sky (Mount Washington Press).

She edits the journal Appalachia and the quarterly Connecticut Woodlands. She was a 1999 fellow at the Metcalf Institute for Marine and Environmental Reporting and now serves on its advisory board. She also takes photographs and occasionally does radio pieces.

She hiked the entire Appalachian Trail, from Georgia to Maine in 1987. Born in Philadelphia and raised in New Jersey, she graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1981. She and her husband, Nat Eddy, have two daughters in college.
