New Canaan Soccer U9 Girls Black Team wins 3 of 4
The New Canaan U9 Girls Black soccer team won three of four games at the Fall Annual Soccer Tournament (FAST) in Fairfield on Saturday, August 31st. In their first competition of the season, the Black team played the Fairfield Blue Dragons. As the game remained tied after a scoreless first half, the team battled hard and Isabelle Schuh scored the winning goal to send the Black Team to victory by a score of 1-0. After a tough 4-1 loss to Bethel in their second game of the tournament, the girls rallied to beat the Fairfield United Blue 1 team. Working as a cohesive unit, the team spread the field out and produced four goals scored by Ella Imbruce, Isabelle Schuh and two by Ellie Gallois, ending the game in a 4-0 victory. In the fourth game of the tournament verses the Fairfield United Blue 4 team, the New Canaan girls were down 1-0 when Peyton Zaletsky tied the game in the first half. The team really came together in the second half when Maeve Baker scored the go ahead goal to send the score to 2-1. The Black team never looked back as they added an insurance goal when Ellie Gallois scored on a penalty kick to end the game in a 3-1 victory. Energized by their early success, the team hopes to build on its 3 and1 early season record when they play the Fairfield United Blue 5 team in Fairfield on Sunday, September 8th.
